Make your own - Crafty Cardmakers and More

Hello!

This fortnights challenge at Crafty Cardmakers and More is to

While my first instinct when making a card is to reach for my (rather large) stash of papers, it is great to make your own unique background from time to time - and it's good when you can't quite find the colour paper you are looking for too!!

Anyway, here's my card

I started by stamping the lines (from a Stampin' Up Grunge set) with versamark and clear embossing powder, then layering up Peacock Feathers and Bundled Sage distress inks, then overstamping this with a Dictionary Stamp with the Bundled Sage and a splodgy stamp (also Stampin' Up, the latter is also in the Grunge set), then a diamond stamp in a very light dusting of weathered wood.

My image is from Saturated Canary, and I coloured her in similar colours, but did her eyes in a lilac blue, and very contrasting hair!

I'm not sure who will be the recipient of this card, so will add a sentiment later (probably about 5 minutes before I need to post it!!)

That's it from me today!

Have a great week, and hope you can join in with the challenge this time

Better late then never... Things are Flying at Crafty Cardmakers and More...

Hello!!  I am a week late for this fortnights challenge at Crafty Cardmakers and More... my excuse was that I have cracked my ribs after having the flu and then a cold, and have been in agony.  So was not as organized as I should have been before going away for the Easter weekend (more on that later...)

Anyway the theme is Things with Wings, so I chose to use a not-seen-ink-in-ages stamps which is a Marianne Crafts one (I think!!), and some Nitwits papers from my stash

Quite simple for me, but I just LURVE that little froggy!!   I used a banner sentiment cut in two then popped it on a straw to make a kind of signpost...)

I decorated the inside to match

Anyway - so my little break - well I took the kids to Battle, which is just outside Hastings... on the site of errr... the Battle of Hastings... we took a wander round the Abbey that was built on the site.  We took a wander round the battlefield which had an audio tour that was pretty good, but the kids one was a lot better... even if my youngest (he's 7) kept telling his 13 year old brother that they were on the Bloody Battlefield... cheeky monkey, his brother kept telling him not to swear, but he pointed out that he was being accurate as the battlefield was covered in blood (in 1066... I didn't see a drop when we were there, I think modern health and safety would take a dim view of that sort of thing at a visitor attraction these days)... knowing full well what he was saying... honestly for a child that struggles to read and write he is too smart for his own good somedays!   Anyway, the area is well recommended, although the medieval house that is now a tea room that stands opposite is most definitely not (the service was like a cross between Kitchen Nightmares and Fawlty Towers... which was hilarious and made for a memorable lunch for all the wrong reasons!)

Anyway, thanks for stopping by

Something Fishy at Top Tip Tuesday...

Hello... how quickly has two weeks flown by?!?

It's time for another Top Tip Tuesday Challenge, and this weeks is

Kids

Which is sponsored by 2 Cute Ink and I used the Angel Fish image

Now, I don't know why (maybe I've been making too many cards for adults recently...) but I found this one tough... maybe because when I'm making a kids card, I usually have a recipient in mind... who knows!

Anyway, I really hope you like it... in my defence it is quite pink... does that count :-)

Hope you like it nevertheless :-)

Hugs, Sue xx

Girly at Top Tip Tuesday

Hello!

I've been missing for quite a while... apologies.

This weeks Top Tip Tuesday Challenge is to showcase your girly cards - make them pink, cute, loada bling... whatever floats your boat!

I went for the cute, but not pink look, using a cute Heather Ellis image - Pure Innocence 20 - but went for a calm colour scheme.  Actually I know exactly who is getting this one - and I've made it a whole 3 months early!!  Get me being all organised!!

Anyway, I'm not going to waffle today, just to say that I used some gorgeous MME papers, and some ribbon from my stash.  As the intended recipient is not a pink girl, this is just perfect, but still feels like something a little girl would like :-D

Cute huh?

If you love making your own flowers, check out the tutorial on the Challenge Blog - it's awesome!!

Thanks for stopping by

Like... uh... whatever...

 Hello!!

How's your week going?  I've been mega busy at work so far this week - it feels like it should be Friday already, but no, only Wednesday... boo!!

Never mind, just two more days to get through and it's the weekend :-D

I thought I'd make an non-challenge card for a change, and picked one of my favourite Saturated Canary images - Pink, just never get tired of colouring this one up :-D

I used more of the Simple Stories Summer Fresh papers, cutting them up here and there, lifting some bits up on foam pads.  I'll probably put this in the post to one of my friends, just to say Hi and brighten their day!

That's it from me today, thanks for stopping by

Happy Birthday... to me!!

Hello!

It's my Birthday today, shhh, don't tell anyone but it's the big four-zero for me!  Yikes, how did that happen, in my head I'm still about 23/24, but my body is telling me differently... dear me, I put my neck out at the weekend and spent most of Saturday looking like a Thunderbird puppet :-D

Anyhoo.... it was my turn to choose the challenge at Ladybug Crafts Ink this time and I just had to pick

Birthdays!

It doesn'thave to be a special one, but any birthday you like!

I was lucky enough to use Billie is 8 - Tutu Billie for this challenge

Isn't she great?  I've no idea why but my printer decided to throw a MEGA strop and it bled out the minute I started colouring.  No idea why!  Maybe because I grabbed the sheet straight from the printer, rather than doing my usual and having a dither for a day or two!  LOL, I got round this by using all four of the images and layering them up decoupage style.  Which worked for me!

Anyway, that's enough from me, I've birthday pressies to open!  Not going to have a good night tonight though as it is the open evening for the school which my eldest is going to in September, just what I need on my birthday, sitting in a school hall, listening to my old head of sixth-form (who's now the head at my son's new school), still HB has got me (read us!) for the Goodwood Festival of Speed next weekend, it's somewhere I've never been, but always wanted to go... oooh and tickets for the Revival Festival too... I just need to find my outfit for that one!

Have a great day!

Punches and Dies @ Southern Girls

Hello!

It's been a funny day today... I've had my hair done after work, cut and coloured properly and looking lush (and me, relaxed....) then get back to the car to find a parking warden has given me a ticket... but slapped it OVER the parking ticket from the machine, which was in time, and with my registration number clearly marked on it.  Not sure quite what his/her thought process was whilst adhering the ticket, but suspect it might have been... "ooooh... whoops... oh what the heck!"  I'm going to appeal, but secretly thinking, please refuse so I can force it to go to court, and get the CCTV footage produced as evidence of me quite clearly parking my car, getting out, paying for my ticket, putting it on the window, locking my car then walking away, and an hour later the traffic warden slapping a ticket over the top of it :-D  My mind is clearly in the slighly warped setting today :-D

Anyhoooo.... today's card

This fortnights Southern Girls Challenge is Punches and Dies.... ahhh... very much my sort of thing!   I've used Wishing Well Fairy from Inky Impressions, who are this fortnights sponsors along with Marianne Design

I've used a heap of dies on here - La La Land Craft's Heart Banner, Memory Box Lavish Branch and Magnolia Vintage Tag.  More MME papers (one of these days I'm NOT going to use MME and you'll all fall over in shock!)  Berrisfords ribbon and some lace, pins and some dew drop thingy's I picked up at the weekend.

I was going to heat emboss the tag, but my heat gun is still AWOL (still suspect it has been relocated to the garage when HB was heat shrinking the wiring on the mini, it may never be seen again...), so I decided to use some guilding flakes instead.

I coloured her with my copics and added Glamour Dust to her wings and shoes

I think that's it from me today, thanks for stopping by!

Getting Krafty over at Southern Girls

Oops!  I meant to publish this the other day, typed it and like an idiot forgot to press publish!!  So sorry!

Sooo... it's been a while huh!?  Glad to report that I'm back on it, mojo restored and raring to go :-D

And what better way to start than with a new Challenge for Southern Girls, which this fortnight is Get Krafty which is sponsored by 7 Dots Studio and Saturated Canary.

I was fortunate enough to use one of the fabulous Saturated Canary images, Princess Reading Beauty, and I teamed them with some MME papers from my stash, matting and layering them on Kraft c/s and stitching with my sewing machine.  I found some blue and Kraft flowers in my stash and a Tim Holtz ticket that seemed appropriate!  I couldn't help but add some lace and velvet ric rac and some pearls and pins as well, some things are never going to change!!

I've coloured my image with copics and added a touch of Glamour Dust to her shoes and headress - well every girl likes a bit of sprarkle!

To finish the card off I decorated the inside to match

Two posts in one day, what ever next!

I dunno!  I barely post anything in weeks and then two posts in one day, well... nearly!

Have you spotted the LCI Easter Sale is on?

No I hear you cry, well hop on (did you see what I did there!) over to LCI and grab yourself a bargain as all cling stamps are half price... I know HALF price... and with free worldwide shiupping and a freebie over £25 why are you still here, reading my blog!!  LOL, don't get me wrong, I'm delighted you are still here!!

OK, so here is a card I made for my nieces 1st birthday... still very basic as the mojo was (and still is!) counting out the zzzz's.

I used Wellies Robyn and one of the fabby sentiments from Sentimental Numbers.  She looks so happy in her sparkly wellies and I need a brolly that has bling!!

If anyone finds my mojo catching a nap somewhere, please can you give it a prod and send it back to me... I miss it!!  Don't get me wrong I love this card, great papers, fabby image... it's just not the kitchen sink style that I am used to doing!!  And I like my KS cards!  I've been playing with distress inks today... not sure on that either!  What's going on!!!

Scrapbook Sisters Card Challenge 52 - Indian Summer

Hello!!

This weeks Scrapbook Sisters Challenge is Indian Summer, although I don't think so as it's looking quite miserable out of my window at the moment!!  Still here's hoping!!

I decided to be good and use up some of the masses of papers that I have lurking - this one is a Fancy Pants design from a couple of years ago, and I really liked the ethnic pattern in quite a modern colour.  I also decided to ink up one of my lovely Gorjuss girls to create a tent card - although you can't see it is in the photo that well - sorry!!

Honestly what an idiot, fancy not taking a picture from the side... duh!!  I used some dark red/rust CS to mat the paper onto and also to cut a flower thingy with a Marianne die, then a couple of lengths of browny bronzy organza and I've adhered her so she's perching on the edge of the card apature.

I'm still working on the hair colouring thing, I'm getting there, but I can now see what colours I need to make a difference as I think the E15/E18/another couple I used but can't remember which(!) are darker than I intended, but overall I think she looks OK.  I should give myself a break really as before last year I didn't think I could colour at all!!

Thanks for stopping by

Ladybug Crafts Ink Challenge 38 - Flowers

Hello!!

Can you believe it's Tuesday already, and time for this weeks Ladybug Crafts Ink challenge!  It really doesn't seem like a week since the Wrinklies were released and we were hopping all over!  Thanks to everyone that joined in with the hop and linked up their cards, my jaw was hitting the floor at so many gorgeous creations, so very well done to the winners and top three!!

Anyway, this week it is the turn of the fabulous Michele to set the challenge and she would like to see

Easy peasy huh?  You can make your own or use ready made, the choice is yours :-D

Actually flowers often find their way onto my cards, but oh my, this week I had a nightmare, and hated the blooms that I originally put on here, fortunately the glue wasn't dry and I was able to remove them and change it about a bit, so it's not as I'd intended to start with but I think I rescued it!!

Right, no more waffle, here's my card

I used more of my MME Paris and Co papers (and was so chuffed to find a matching button in my stash!!) and coloured up Daydreaming Ruby - just love her, she looks gorgeous on a CAS card as much as one that is more elaborate!

I LOVE her sparkly shoes and hair slide!!

Please may I enter these challenges

Scrapbook Sisters Card Challenge 49 - Recipe

Hi

Sorry I am late with this post for the Scrapbook Sisters Challenge which this week is a recipe!

The girls would like to see

Flower, Ribbon and Gem

Here's my card

I used some gorgeous MME papers with a cheeky little fairy by Kraftin' Kimmie

As ever, she's coloured with copics and I've popped some glamour dust on her wings

Please can I enter these challenges

and I used the sketch from Sunday Sketch and Stamp

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, but I found out this week I am at risk of being made redundant.  It was pretty much out of the blue and I have no idea at the moment what is going to happen, if I will still have a job or not and how much my T&C's will be affected.  It's a really horrible time as the team I work with work well together and there is no-one that is obviously more at risk than the others.  For those that are left we will have to cope with the same work but with a third of us gone, so right now not sure if it is better to stay or go!  I've worked there in various jobs for 17 years, so it's pretty much the only workplace I have known so the thought of moving is blooming scary, especially as there aren't that many jobs out there!!  I'm sure either way I'll be OK, I just need to know what's happening!!
Anyway, I'm getting there, and I HAVE to make a few cards over the next few days so hopefully that'll force my mojo back into action

Thanks for looking

Relax!

Hello!!

I seem to be very into green at the moment, no idea why, but there you go! Yesterday a green dragon, today a chillin' cutie :-D

This is another card I have made using one of the MME Lime Twist 6x6 paper packs, and one of the too cute by far images by the Paper Shelter.  I'd love to be able to laze out today, but no rest for me, and I'm off to work in a bit :-(

The design is quite simple but I glammed it all up with an oversized organza bow, onto which I stitched a button.  You can't see it very well in the picture but there is glossy accents on her sunglasses and the drink, and a touch of glitter on the flower in her hair and the umbrella in her drink.

Have a great week, don't forget there is still just time to enter the draw for my blog candy!!

ve missed the boat as I can't see it in stock at the moment... oops, sorry!!  Still there are plenty of others to catch your eye - just click here :-D.

And now I've got the hang of cutting felt with my thin dies I decided to make my own flower, layering up some gorgeous felt with some of the pink CS.  A button from my stash finishes the flower off, tied with some Jute

Tennis anyone??

Hello!!

I wanted to make a quick card last night and I've been wanting to use this Fancy pants papers for a while but because they are quite busy I needed to keep the design quite simple, and this old Card Patterns sketch suited the bill perfectly.  I'd had Tennis Anya coloured up for a while and they seemed to go together perfectly... still took me ages while I faffed about though!!

The sentiment is from a Paula Pascal set, flowers from Wild Orchid Crafts, Ribbon by Berrisfords, Fibres from Scrapbook Sisters, Button from John Lewis, Gems from my stash.  I really like the contrast of the purple CS against the Kraft too :-)

I'd like to enter this card for these challeges please

Cooking It Up With Katie - Colours of Your Flag/ Something your country is known for (as Wimbledon has just finished, I think the UK is quite well known for that??)

Totally Ladybug Tuesday - Challenge 35 - Summer Birthdays

Hello!!!
I'm quite excited about this weeks Challenge at Ladybug Crafts Ink, because it is my turn to set the challenge... eek!!!  Well I say, this week's challenge, but the challenge will be going Monthly during the summer, before going back to weekly in September

As is usual, the knowledge that it was my challenge sent my mojo into hiding and I've been papershuffling all week, colouring images up, then putting them to one side and then picking them back up again... ho hum, at least I have a few images all coloured in and ready to go :-)

In the end I chose Cupcake Ruby and teamed her with a Lime Twist pad by My Minds Eye
Deep breath, here goes, hope you like it :-D

I'm not sure if you can see in the picture but I distressed all the edges of the paper and CS and then played around with the sewing machine and found this double - I think it makes the stitching pop much more than the normal single sort - let me know what you think!

I cut a shape with my nesties labels 5 (or is it 6!) and then embossed it and sanded it back (I was getting quite into the distressing at this point, although it did look it had been snowing on my workspace!!) to reveal the core, and mounted Ruby onto the panel.

Have you noticed, there's NO paper flowers on my card... but I couldn't give up the ribbon too, and used some lovely hat pins, with a little charm thingy to keep the pointy bits covered (I stuck it with a drop or two of glossy accents, fingers crossed it holds!!)

OK, OK, so there is a flower in there - if this metal embellie counts as such!  I've topped it off with an Epoxy Dot, and added to a banner style sentiment made from the Birthday Wishes sentiment from the It's Only Words 1 set

And the inside, nothing too fancy, but it still finishes the card off nicely :-D

So there you go... I might well be showcasing some more of the ones I coloured but changed my mind on over the next 4 weeks!

Thanks for stopping by, Sue xx

Scrapbook Sisters Card Challenge 42 – Summer Fun

Hello!!  The weeks really are flying now, and we are well into summer -well supposedly we are - in my little corner of the world it's been all seasons in the space of a week!!

This weeks Scrapbook Sister's card challenge is willing the warmer weather to make a more permanent appearance by the theme of

although not the sort of warmer weather that saw 30+ temperatures during the day on Sunday and Monday, and 25+ on Monday night - I need my sleep and it was too hot and muggy for me!!

Anyway, enough of blah blah blah and British moaning about it's too hot/too cold/too wet and onto todays card...

What can I say about this card, well I spotted this little cutie "Flying Frog" by Nellie Snellen when I went to my class at scrapping Scrapbook Sisters last Tuesday, and Karen had just unpacked the box and I just HAD to have her!!  I wanted to do something Fresh, so went for Bo Bunny and Doodlebug papers and I've been itching to use this wired oversized ribbon for a while.

The sentiment is by Kraftin Kimmie and seemed to fit the image perfectly :-)

I couldn't resist and added a bit of sparkle here and there... and a few flowers, LOL!

Halfway through fussy cutting this little Miss I was seriously regretting my decision as the wand was getting a bit wobbly, but now she's stuck onto the nestie all is well :-D

I'd love to enter these challenges please!

Thanks for stopping by, I'm looking forward to seeing your creations

Chillin!! And finally, news on the school....

Good morning!!

Well, do you want to know what has happened on the school front... well yesterday I came home to a letter... and...

WE WON THE APPEAL!!!!!

whoo hoo!!!!

I had convinced myself that we wouldn't have and life would change dramatically for us all, but somehow it seems as if that we managed to convince the appeal board that the reasons for putting our youngest in the same school as his brother were stronger than the schools reason for denying him a place in the first instance.  Relief doesn't quite cover it!!  HB opened the letter passed it to me (we hadn't got through the front door at this point!)  and both kids watched on as their parents did the full on, jumping up and down, going oh so slightly potty, happy dance round the garden :-D

I'd just like to thank all my friends and followers for all their support and encouragement... especially Amanda who seemed all set to jump on a jet plane and kick some bottoms on my behalf, lol thanks for that Amanda, just the tonic I needed :-)... seriously though, everyone's kind words meant a lot :-D

Right then, onto the important business of the day :-)
I couldn't resist, I just had to have another little play with this little cutie from The Paper Shelter, but went a bit cooler in colours this time :-)

I've had this Paper Adventures "Go Fish - Fresh Water Wash" paper in my stash for a while, uncut and just waiting to get cut up, and I don't think I have used this Marianne Die either (I know, shame on me!!), and even worse, I've never used these Prima blooms either (I know, I'm hanging my head and apologising profusely now...), but both the flowers and the die seemed perfect to go with the tropical feel of this card, and with the flower in her hair

This time I cut her out and popped her on a some circles, embossed with my current favourite dotted swiss embossing folder.

I quite like that I have only used one paper design for this card, as I thought there was enough interest in this one to carry it, and not get too fussy!!  The sentiment is by PTI, stamped with Momento.

I'd like to enter this card for these challenges

Thanks for looking, Sue xx

Scrapbook Sisters Card Challenge 40 - Bunting and Banners

Good morning,

Before I show you today's card, you might like to your sunglasses because this one is bright!!  I am determined to make summer finally arrive despite the cold and rain!!

OK, sunnies on??  If not don't say I didn't warn you!!

OK, this weeks Scrapbook Sisters Challenge is

I'm going to be honest, this was NOT my original card for this challenge, which was far more clean and simple than this one!!  But I just couldn't get it to work, so I'll keep fiddling until I am happy - if not it'll go in the recycling bin :-)

I used a Paper Shelter image, and went a bit tropical with the inking round the edge :-)  Check out her shiny sunglasses and glass - don't ya just love glossy accents!!

I hand cut the bunting, and stamped it with a sentiment and then stitched it onto some ribbon, not as easy as I thought it would be!!

The papers are assorted Bo Bunny and Echo Park (I think!), and an X cut die cut, some more stitching, dotty organza and flowers finished this little cutie off.

After I abandoned project one after faffing and paper shuffling for hours this one came together quite quickly.  How irritating!!  If I'd just done her to start with instead of trying to be smart, I'd have had more time to carry on crafting, and got less stressed!!   Lesson learnt :-)

Thanks for stopping by!!  Looking forward to seeing your cards

I'd like to enter these challenges please

More tomorrow xx
