Hello!
I tried to have a crafty day today, and I did to an extent, with a whole heap of cards made and written (yes I'm still on the Christmas cards. Then HB turned up with a my youngest's new bed (well I say new, it has been passed to us by friends who had it for a year and then changed their children's room about, so who was I to turn down a quite expensive cabin bed thing, with bookcase, drawers and wardrobe all in one!!)
So HB took the kids to his work and collected the work van to transport it home and BIL came over to help put the bed together. They rang me when they were on their way and I finished clearing small son's bedroom out all ready. His new bed was up in no time and the new mattress unwrapped and the bed made... he is so happy!!
It was getting late and the heating had just fired up when BIL said he could smell something funny coming from the boiler, and he and HB decided to clamber into the cupboard to check where it was coming from. Now, cos we live in the middle of nowhere we have oil fired heating, not gas and the boiler was serviced a couple of weeks ago so all should be fine. Anyway, what they found was that a pipe was leaking and that the fuel was leaking all over the place. This stuff is effectively diesel, so is horrible, thick and gloopy and foul smelling!! The only option was to turn the heating off to stop the leak, I have tried ringing the people who serviced the boiler, but their numbers are all unobtainable, so I have had to ring the home help number I get as part of my bank account package, and I'm waiting for them to arrange to come out to us. Until then we freeze!! Thankfully the fuel oil isn't flammable just stinks, and we have ripped up the ruined carpet and thrown it outside, and i have chucked washing up liquid all over the floor and scrubbed it as best I could to get rid of as much as I could. Oh I needed this like a hole in the head after the PC going wrong and mice waging war on the car electrics!! The only plus side is that most of the things I store in there were in plastic boxes so the contents are OK!
Anyway, so the short version is that my hopes of a crafty day/evening/weekend are all but wrecked :-(
Ah well, at least I got a few cards done this morning, including a few more for my friends kids, two more kids cards to go and a few grown up ones and that's my lot! I needed something quick for my male work colleagues (the girls have all got a "proper" card from me, 'cos I think they appreciate them more!!), and I got these little Woodware cards which are 8cm square from the Scrapbook Sisters cropped the other week, and then I used my Kanban flourish Christmas tree to stamp on each with Versamark and then emboss with various colour embossing powders. I've done them in gold, silver, bronze, green, black and green. I love them, they are so simple but so effective!
Here they all are
I think my favourites are the black
and silver
Gotta love simple designs!!
That's it from me, wish me luck... I think I'll be tipped over the edge if anything else goes wrong!!
Thanks for stopping by
Sue xx
